Another evening hike

Tonight we climbed Beech Hill for another evening hike. It was a short trip, the second time this week we've done an evening loop. Julie aptly called it "peulat erev." The walk was a bit close to the ledge (not too close) and Yadin got really nervous. Yet another bad habit he has picked up from me. Anan and Zoey didn't seem to notice at all. We got some fantastic views of the bay and the sunset on the opposite side of the island. The best thing was that we basically did not see anyone else the entire hike. Like we had the whole place to ourselves.

In fact, I've been pondering the whole trip why it is that human beings have both a social need to be in constant contact with another (the blog is good evidence of this impulse) and yet at the same time a desire for isolation. Perhaps there is some spot in our brain that instinctually remembers that the planet used to be virtually empty (at least of human beings) and craves a return to that situation, at least for a short time.

Nature was cut short when we got home, pulled into the driveway and Anan asked if we could watch America's Got Talent. You can take the kids out of the cheese but you can't take the cheese out of the kids :).

  1. This place looks amazing, I would love to arrange something like that to my family too, sometime. your children have a very good English as such who study in Israel, how do you do it?
Enjoy, have fun and come back refresh.
