Julie and I both have advanced degrees, we work with our minds and not our hands. We are white collar through and through.
And yet, our kids clearly belong outdoors. Yesterday we went to a beach full of boulders and I watched as Yadin, Zoey and Anan explored tidepools, climbed cliffs and stuck their feet in the water. They scampered up mountains. They never walk--they run.
Inside the house, life is a pressure cooker. Outside, they run free.
I just find it strange that two sort of intellectuals have produced kids that do so much better outdoors. As the pediatrician said, your kids would have made great shepherds.
I take that as a compliment.
That becaus they are living in Israel and not in front of the T.v. in the u.s.
ReplyDeleteThere is something to be said for that, although we unfortunately fight the same battle against too much screen time in Israel. One thing I have noticed this summer--the kids are mesmerized by the commercials on TV. In Israel they do watch TV but there are no commercials.
